The
reason for the Database:
With
hundreds of businesses proclaiming that they use Macintosh computers
in their daily operations, a searchable database just had to
be created. So today, we're announcing that the Searchable
Database of Macintosh-using Businesses has
reached Version 1.0. More than just a listing of companies and their
websites, this database contains fields for everything from "business
type" to "percentage of employees using Macs" to a
description field in which the business can include information on
pretty much anything it feels may be use to potential customers,
like-minded businesses, etc. While most fields are currently empty
for most listings, this will change as participating businesses provide
all the relevant information for their company.
I
sincerely hope that this database becomes a living, breathing entity
that can help bring Mac users and Mac-using businesses closer to
each other, all while kicking the crap out of the misguided notion
that "the business world only uses PC's". If you want to
take an early look at the database, click on the logo below, and
try searching in the "company" field. For example, if you
search for "architect", you'll currently get six results
(perhaps more by the time you read this). Once the participating
businesses provide the rest of their information, you'll be able
to search by City or State, or simply search for keywords in the "Description" field.
The
resulting listings will include the website, contact name, phone
number, address, and email address for each business, if that business
has chosen to make such information public. This means that you'll
be able to do business with these entities, or simply ask them a
question about their Macintosh usage, instantly. For example, if
you're a dentist's office who wants to Switch to the Mac but doesn't
know what specialized dental software is available for the Mac platform,
all you need to do is search for "dentist" to see who in
that field is already succeeding on the Mac platform. With Mac users'
well-known penchant for helping each other, this just might bring
even more businesses over to the Mac platform -- and if you're one
of them, it just might bring more business your way.
Keep
in mind that even though this database has reached Version 1.0, it
will continue to grow and evolve with continued contributions from
the Macintosh-using business community all over the nation and all
over the world.
