Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are quite possibly the most unique
ensemble in moderm popular music. The lead instrument is a
banjo, the percussionist doesn't
use a drumset, the bass guitarist sounds unlike any other bassist you've
ever heard, and the saxophonist is often found playing two
saxes at once. Amazon.com
refers to the their sound as "a three-ring circus of stylistic outreach",
and with good reason. I had the good fortune to take in a Flecktones show earlier
this year, and although the band is world-famous enough to have "reached
more than 500,000 audience members in 2001 alone", all four members
still come out and meet the fans after each and every show. Perhaps more
importantly,
they're Macintosh users.
Flecktones members Bela Fleck (banjo), Futureman (percussion), and Richard
Battaglia (tour manager) recently took the time to share with us the role
that Macs play
in the band's touring and recording processes:
